The 3rd edition of Karachi Fashion Week (KFW) has been concluded at a quite different theme as compared to the early shows, delivering a strong message before the international community projecting Pakistan’s real, soft and superb image, on Sunday.
The grand finale of the event was no doubt a superb idea, particularly in alliance with the ongoing regional situation. Renowned fashion designer Yousaf Bashir Qureshi under the brand of YQB, designed typical Eastern dresses having a uniform’s look, terming it ‘soft military’ collection which were presented on ramp, with the models parading, instead of catwalking, with national songs ‘Ye Watan Tumhara Hay’ and ‘Mera Dhool Sepahea’ as background music.
Earlier, as whole, in all the four days, dress of all types from pure Eastern Mughal tradition to latest trendy Western dress, their fusion, and a number of dresses, being designed by the inspiration from various ages of the East and West were showed on ramp and the event was concluded with a patriotic theme.YBS designed local dresses: shalwar kameez, frocks, long and short shirts with pyjamas and lungis. His designed dresses also included Eastern dresses with Western cuts being used locally, having a touch of cocktail dresses. He chose spring colours: light green, yellow with light grey and other plain colours on cotton and polyester.
Along with YBS, on the last day of the KFW, Guess, Sanam, Usman Dittu, Nayna Online and Munib Nawaz presented their designs. The day began with fashion presentation of dresses designed by Element Jeans. ‘Guess’ collection included pants in blue with unisexual jackets, besides T-shirts, cocktail dresses, skirts in contrast colours. ‘Sanam’ designed long shirts for men, two-piece suits with long coats and gown-style shirts. For women, Sanam designed various outfits, cocktail dresses in white, black, light green, yellow, light grey and other contrast colours. The primary focus of the collection was on trousers with tops. Nayna Online presented a wide range of colourful Eastern and Western designs. The collection included long shirts, pyjamas, frocks, loose trousers and flappers with jackets, cocktail and other outfits having textures in prints and borders in a large number of brighter colours including red, parrot green, brown, yellow and others. Her designed long shirts contained contrasts and matching colour pieces. Usman Dittu designed Eastern dresses with Western cuts.
During all the three days, besides crème de la crème of the metropolis, various prominent political figures and celebrities visited the event. On the last day, Pakistan People’s Party’s Sharmila Farooqui while talking to Daily Times, said that the week was a great effort, which not only supported the country’s export but also unveiled the real image of Pakistan, that of love, peace, beauty and fashion. She was of the view that such activities would emerge the local talent on international level. – Dailytimes
