Pakistan-Malaysia ink MOU to cooperate in scientific, technical engineering fields

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Institute of Technology Petronas SDN Berhad (ITPSB) and Pakistan’s Comsats Institute of Information and Technology (CIIT) Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote cooperation in science and technology.The MOU signed by Datuk Dr. Zainal Abidin Haji Kasim, Rector and MD/CEO of ITPSB and Associate Professor, Dr. Abdul Rashid Abdul Aziz, Director, Research Enterprise Office of CIIT in Ipoh, Malaysia.According to MOU, the signatory parties will exchange students, staff members, research scientists, and institutional managers for short periods to generate and guarantee continued scientific and scholarly cooperation.It would also promote cooperative and collaborative linkages to enhance their scientific, technical and engineering competencies and to develop future programmes of mutual interest and benefit.The parties will also provide higher degree training to teaching staff, organize joint conferences, seminars, symposia, summer courses and short courses besides, exchanging publications and other scientific materials for scientific, scholarly, educational and information purposes to strengthen the friendly relationships between the institutions.The MOU envisages publication and printing of scientific material and creation of a standing web-site for placing and sharing of materials of the Institutes’ regarding scientific seminars and actual scientific works.
It would also lead to MSc and PhD Programs for students from CIIT and ITPSB and organize joint research activities, which may be supported by the exchange scientists, scholars and technical staff members.The other provisions of MOU include, organizing higher degree training to teaching staff from CIIT and ITPSB, besides, supporting publication of articles, exchange of magazines, monographs, tutorials and methodic recommendations.AXA Working Committee will also be setup to mange the implementation of the collaboration with the objective to identify and articulate issues related to staff development, student exchange, joint R&D and teaching & learning programmes and to review the progress of the collaboration.
