LAKKI MARWAT: A non-governmental organisation has launched a project to equip government schools of far flung areas with furniture and other facilities.“Equipping government schools of the remote and backward areas will help achieve the goal of quality education”, said district programme manager of Community Motivation and Development Organisation (CMDO) Mohammad Israr Khan on Monday. The NGO has signed separate MoUs with the education and health departments to provide the schools and health units in the district with basic facilities.Mr Israr said that the civic organisation was working in education and health sectors with the objectives to bring improvement in both fields and provide the residents of the district with better health and education facilities at their doorsteps.CMDO social organiser Ishfaq Ahmad was also present on the occasion. Mr Israr said four government schools had been equipped with furniture while six more schools of the backward union councils would get furniture soon.

In the first phase, he said, the CMDO selected six most backward union councils of the district wherein the schools with high dropout ratio and lacking basic facilities were chosen for the provision of furniture and other basic needs. He said that the schools equipped with furniture included GPS Nar Muzaffar, GPS Michenkhel, GPS Manjiwala and GGPS Sarfraz Landaka. “Six other schools including GGPS Ghaznikhel, GGPS Michenkhel, GGPS Mandrakhel, GPS Muhammadkhel, GPS Kakkakhel and GPS Ghaznikhel will get furniture and other facilities soon”, he maintained.Mr Israr said that the CMDO would also set up lawns and install pressure pumps in the schools. Under the project school bags, uniform, sweaters, shoes, stationary and other items will also be provided for students”, he said, adding that the move will help restore the confidence of people especially parents in government schools.“The provision of basic facilities and other essential commodities to the schools and students will also help boost education in the backward district, overcome the dropout rate and increase enrollment of children in government schools – Dawn
