KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has expressed his dissatisfaction over the performance and output of the Sindh Board of Revenue and stressed the need to improve the working of the department and make concerted efforts to achieve better results.To review the functioning and performance of the board, a high-level meeting was chaired by the Sindh chief minister at his office on Tuesday.The board is the controlling authority relating to management of state land collection of land revenue and other taxes, maintenance of revenue record and other allied matters.The Sindh Advocate General’s office complained that the Sindh Board of Revenue is not pursuing the matters in the court despite the fact that the board has a large number of members.Highlighting the role of the board, the Sindh chief minister said that it is a very important department as it generates major income of the province.He observed that there is a perception that a lot of corruption is going on in the revenue department and it is the duty of the concerned officers and officials of the board to share the responsibility in discharging their duties honestly to rebuild the confidence of the people.He hoped that the old status of the Sindh Board of Revenue would be revived, which is in the larger interest of the Sindh province, and the interests of the province must be safe guarded at any cost.He stressed upon all of the officers to follow the cases in courts and inform the office of the Sindh Advocate General about the details with provision of necessary documentary proofs.The Sindh chief minister also stressed the need to give proper and timely response to the queries, observations and questions of the courts.He said that many Tapedars, supervising Tapedars and assistant Mukhtiarkars are reported involved in corruption, fraudulent entries in record of rights, mismanagement etc.He said if and when any official is found indulged in any criminal act, prompt action will be taken against that person.Sindh Chief Secretary Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha and member officers of the Sindh Board of Revenue presented reports about the board’s activities.Pasha assured the Sindh chief minister that the working will be streamlined and further improved as per his expectations – Dailytimes
