Kashf Foundation distributes 114 houses’ keys to flood victims

LAHORE: Kashf Foundation has distributed the keys of newly constructed one-room homes to the women of 114 flood-affected families in the Manna village in Kot Addu tehsil, Muzaffargarh, after the successful completion of relief operations there.Kashf Foundation (KF) Media Manager, Nasir Mumtaz, told Daily Times on Wednesday that KF Managing Director, Roshaneh Zafar, distributed the keys of the houses to the deserving people. Speaking on the occasion, Roshaneh explained the importance of building back better houses, saying, “The quality and strength of houses built is highlighted as a crucial aspect in disaster risk reduction (DRR), since it reduces social and physical vulnerabilities, is a preventative measure, and mitigates disasters. By building houses that last for a longer period, the foundation will ensure that the beneficiaries have shelters in the event of future flooding.”Describing the highlights of the Kashf Flood Relief Fund, she said that the foundation was currently in its second phase.After the successful completion of the reconstruction pilot phase, an additional 400 houses will be reconstructed in the Manna. Community participation is being encouraged and the people living in the village are being motivated to play an active role in the reconstruction of their homes. This provides the community a chance to earn sustenance through paid labour. Additionally, the community is acquiring essential skills by building septic tank building and monitoring the reconstruction process.
