KARACHI: At least eight unidentified armed robbers on Thursday looted a huge amount of foreign currency and over Rs 6.2 million from a private bank in the limits of Mehmoodabad police station.According to the police, at around 9:30am, some eight-armed robbers entered a bank in Azam Basti in the jurisdiction of Mehmoodabad police station and snatched weapons from security guards, Ghulam Rasool and Hayat. They held bank employees hostage at gunpoint, injured a security guard Ghulam Rasool on resistance and looted around Rs 6.214 million and foreign currency and managed to flee after a swift operation within five minutes. The police said they had kept both security guards in the custody for interrogation.SHO of the Mehmoodabad police station said the robbers came in a car (APG-908) and two motorbikes and looted Rs 6.214 million cash, $8,000 and prize bonds worth Rs 29,000 from the cash counter. He said that the robbers fled with the DVR system, hence they were unable to identify them. He said that the police had lodged an FIR (129/11) against unidentified robbers on the complaint of Sajid, a service manager of the bank, and started an investigation into the case.Later, a team of Special Investigation Unit (SIU), headed by SP Raja Umar Khitab, also visited the incident place and took evidence for investigation – Dailytimses
