Establishment Division starts process of verification of Govt officials’ degrees

Islamabad: Under the instructions of Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Establishment Division has started the verification of educational degrees of civil servants working in government departments, semi government functionaries and autonomous bodies.The Establishment Division in first phase of verification has sought the degrees of officer working in Basic Pay Scale BPS-17 to BPS-22.

The officials who possessed the fake or bogus degree would be dismissed from the service and legal action would also be taken against them, sources informed Online.The Establishment Division has issued directives to all ministries, divisions and subordinate departments to forward the degrees of the officers of BPS17 to BPS-22 within 30 days for verification.According to facts and figures issued by Establishment Division the number of officers in BPS-17 to BPS-22 is about 24157, out of which some 12669 officers are working in BPS-17. While at present some 6746 officers in grade 18 and around 3071 serving in grade 19, the sources told Media.

The sources further informed that approximately 6113 officers are working in BPS-20, some 440 officers are in BPS-21 and total 118 officers of BPS-22 are working in different ministries , divisions and attached departments of federal as well as provincial governments including AJK and Gilgit Baltistan.When contacted Dr Javed Leghari, Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC), he informed Online that Establishment Division has contacted his organization for verification of degrees.“HEC has the ability for verification 250 to 300 degrees daily and if we work with full capacity it will take three months to verify some 24000 degrees”, Dr Leghari added.After the verification of educational certificates of the parliamentarians, the Prime Minister has ordered Establishment Division to verify the degrees of government servants till April 4.After the verification of the degrees of the officers, the degrees of lower staff working below BPS-16 would be commenced but it would be a really hard task for the government because it would take too much time rather years to verify the degrees of some two million government servants working in BPS 5 to BPS-16 in different ministries, divisions and attached departments of federal as well as provincial governments including AJK and Gilgit Baltistan – Onlinenews
