Rotana launches Egyptian general entertainment channel

RIYADH: Rotana Group, chaired by Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, has launched a new general entertainment channel directed for the Egyptian Market.The new channel has top-class shows, series and movies.The channel will also air a program presented by the renowned Hala Sarhan, president of Rotana Studios.Rotana is one of the region’s strongest media companies.It operates one of the largest TV networks and ad sales operations in the region and owns the largest Arabic film library.Additionally, it has built the leading record label in the Middle East, managing many of the most popular artists in the region and controlling the biggest Arabic music catalogue.Rotana also operates an expanding radio network and a wide array of digital services.Fahad Alsukait, CEO, Rotana Group, said: “The new channel further confirms our strong commitment to the Egyptian viewers and Rotana’s plans to expand its presence in Egypt.”He added: “We continue to believe in the strong market growth Egypt will enjoy medium to long term and our investment in the new channel is to express such confidence and fits with the business plan of the group.”He said the group has a very strong plan to expand its share in the market through multiple initiatives that will cover all our channels.The launch of the new channel is part of that master plan for Rotana’s portfolio of channels, he added.Turki AlShabanah, vice president TV, said: “I am delighted to lead such a project and work with the entire team in Rotana to make it a successful channel for the group.”He said the channel will be directed toward the Egyptian market and will have top rated programs, series and movies.“With Rotana’s huge library of content, its leading edge in new productions and its strong relations with the top stars in the various media platforms, I am confident the channel will be a big success and will be among the top channels in Egypt.”

Rotana Group is a diversified media company in the Middle East.It is the world’s largest producer of Arabic music and a key distributor and producer of Arabic movies with a library comprising more than 1,600 movies.Rotana owns a bouquet of leading free-to-air TV channels including LBC Sat, LBC Europe, Cinema, Khalijiyah, Musica, Zaman, Clip and Nagham broadcasting the latest Arabic movies, series and music videos globally.Rotana also has radio stations, a chain of cafes and its own magazine. It also operates a leading regional advertising sales arm (Rotana Media Services), responsible for advertising sales on its TV channels as well as other media businesses in the region.Rotana’s content is also digitally distributed globally.The Rotana Group employs over 1,100 employees located across the Middle East.
