LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry on Monday directed the inspector general (IG) of Punjab Police to remove all police officers from key posts, who are involved in corruption and other crimes as they were earning a bad name for the department. On court direction, the IG said that there were a number of complaints against his subordinates for misusing of their powers and departmental proceedings had been initiated against them and many had been even terminated. He also stated that he had issued instructions to all the regional police officers to remove corrupt officers and register cases against them. The chief justice was hearing a petition against Ghulam Dastgir, former Satu Katla station house officer, who allegedly kidnapped the petitioner’s wife and forcibly soleminised nikkah with her. The SHO also illegally occupied the house of the petitioner. The chief justice directed the IG to complete inquiry against Ghulam Dastgir in one-month and submit his report in the court. The petitioner, Muhammad Iqbal, submitted that Ghulam Dastgir occupied his house, kidnapped his wife Uzma and later forced her into marriage. He further alleged that the SHO was still keeping his wife in detention. The petitioner said that DIG Major (r) Mubashar Ullah had conducted an inquiry and had held Ghulam Dastgir guilty of the offence. He said that after the inquiry report, the SHO was terminated from the service but no legal action had been taken against him for kidnapping his wife and illegal possession of his house. He requested the court to get his wife recovered from Ghulam Dastgir and take action against him in accordance with law. – Dailytimes
