ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to Attorney General for Thursday (today) regarding suspending ex-Additional Director General FIA Zafar Ahmed Qureshi and transferring four FIA officers investigating National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) financial scam.The AG has been directed to place on record orders passed by Director General Federal Investigation Agency for transfer of officers – Javed Hussain Deputy Director, Muhammad Ahmed Assistant Director, Khalid Anees Assistant Director and Muhammad Sarwar Inspector – on July 1st after the passing of order by the apex court in presence of Azam Khan Director (Legal) FIA.
The AGP was further ordered to produce notification for suspending Zafar Qureshi, while former ADG FIA was also issued notice to appear before the court.The AG was issued notice on the reports of transfer of four FIA officials as well as suspension of Zafar Qureshi, investigating NICL scam, published in various leading newspapers of the country on July 03 to 05, 2011.Qureshi was suspended from his position on July 4th.Zafar Qureshi reportedly believes that elements other than those involved in the Moonis Elahi case are equally responsible for his latest predicament.
Federal Commerce Minister Amin Fahim, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and a son of an influential person are other people responsible for the suspension’. During the investigation of the case it was revealed that Makhdoom Amin Fahim, his wife Ms.Rizwana Amin and his son Makhdoom Khaliluzaman obtained Rs 41 million from NICL accounts. After the publishing of report in this regard in media, PPP leader and Federal Minister for Commerce returned Rs 41 million, which they took through some agent.According to media report, Zafar Qureshi has stated: ‘Mr Fahim and others fear that I may unearth their ‘share’ in the NICL scam while Malik pressurised me to follow his instructions in future investigations’. – Nation
