Benazirabad flood victims to get 10,000 houses on President Zardari’s order

NAWABSHAH: On the directives of President Asif Ali  Zardari 10,000 houses would be constructed for the rain-hit people in district Shaheed Benazirabad, where all basic amenities would be provided.  This was said by Ziaul Hasan Lanjar Coordinator to MNA Faryal Talpur  while talking to media at Nawabshah Press Club here on Tuesday.He said that district Shaheed Benazirabad was now out of emergency and  the work on rehabilitation of affected people could start soon.He said that different organizations of United Nations and World Health  Organization were working for the relief and rehabilitation of affected people while local resources were also being utilized.

Zia Lanjar said that NADRA has set-up 21 centres throughout the  district for distribution of Pakistan Cards for affected people and work on it would soon start. He said the people faced problems due to accumulated water and more water pumping machines are needed in order to boost draining of water.He said that ring road project around city was in pipe line and after  completion it would prevent penetration of water from outside. He said that district government was striving for dewatering of agriculture fields in order to give time for the cultivation of wheat crop.
He said that government would provide wheat and Sunflower seeds to  growers free of cost. Lanjar said that 26 bowzers are arranged to supply potable filtered water to citizens and these are functioning in different parts of the city.

District Coordination Officer, Jamal Mustafa Syed briefing the media  said that recent rains were much heavy and beyond expectation. He said that the relief work was first started in District Shaheed Benazirabad then other districts of the province.He said that te services of Pakistan Navy were acquired to evacuate  people stranded due to rain water. He said that Navy rescued 490 stranded persons and shifted them to safer places while it was still working to supply food to other stranded people through boats.He said that more 1,24,000 rations bags were distributed among rain-hit  people so far while 3,500 ration bags were distributed under World Food Programme.

He said that tent cities would be set-up in different parts of the district with the cooperation of United Nations where they would get three times food, medical facilities and training in different skills in order to earn their livelihood.DCO said that MNA Faryal Talpur took personal interest and set-up an  emergency centre at Zardari House to monitor the after effects of flood. He said that Karachi Water and Sewerage Board provided six bouzers to drain water from city areas and government offices. He said work has started to drain out water from doctors’ colony. – APP
