ISLAMABAD: A group of Parliamentarians called on Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at his Parliament House on Wednesday and appreciated the decision of the Prime Minister to appoint Sherry Rehman as Ambassador of Pakistan to US. They said that it was an excellent choice, which would be instrumental to promote diplomatic interests of Pakistan in the best manner.
They said that the democratic government has been pursuing the policy of empowerment of women who have been neglected in past. The Prime Minister said that the government has taken a number of steps to improve the status of womenfolk in the country because the dream of nation building cannot be realized without their active involvement in the process. The Prime Minister said that he was happy to mention that women are holding important positions in all government offices like civil services, judiciary, Armed Forces, education, etc. “Women are my constituency,” added the Prime Minister.
He said that he would go to each constituency right across the country under the Karwan-e-Tameer to inaugurate development projects Earlier, the Prime Minister went to Nasir Shah MNA who was staging a sit-in at the gate of Parliament House to protest over injustice done with the people of Hazara tribe in particular and Balochistan in general.Nasir Shah announced calling off his protest and thanked the Prime Minister for his commitment for the redressal of grievances of people of Balochistan. Later, he walked into the House with the Prime Minister.
Those who called on the Prime Minister included Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah, Jan M. Jamali, Deputy Chairman Senate, MNAs Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Ms Kashmala Tariq, Pir M. Aslam Bodla, Qasim Noon, Zafar Hiraj, Haji Rozzudin, Laeeq Mohammad, Molvi Agha Mohammad, Asia Nasir, Mufti Ajmal, Abdul Aziz Punya, Farkhuna Amjad, Mehboob Sultan, Sheikh Yaqoob, Dr Zil-e-Huma, Shamshad Bachani, Beelam Husnain, Raheela Baloch, Imtiaz Safdar Warraich and others.Separately, talking to AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed and Local Government Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin at the PM House Wednesday, Gilani said Pakistan will continue supporting the cause of Kashmir.
He said he would visit Muzaffarabad to lay foundation stone of the Muzaffarabad-Lower Topa Duel Carriageway., which will prove as a great source of safety, comfort and convenience for the people travelling from and to the capital of the state. Majeed thanked Gilani for visiting Azad Kashmir where he inaugurated a number of important projects such as Mangla Dam raising project.
The AJK prime minister said the expatriates were delighted on these futuristic projects having promising potential to bring far reaching changes in the state. He observed that he was a witness to these manifestations during his recent visits to the UK and the Azad Kashmir. He lauded Gilani for taking up a firm and clear stand on the Kashmir issue with Indian Prime Minister in the recent Saarc meeting in Maldives. – Nation
