The session of the National Assembly in the parliament House on Thursday was adjourned until tomorrow after a resolution was unanimously approved demanding supremacy of the constitution and law. The resolution was presented by member National Assembly Muhammad Khan Achakzai.

National Assembly passes resolution rejecting PTI, PAT’s demands’

The resolution said that the house unanimously rejects the unconstitutional demands of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri including the resignation of the Prime Minister Nawaz and the dissolution of the National Assembly. Earlier, media had reported that Nawaz Sharif was expected to deliver a speech and take the National Assembly into confidence in his address about his government’s future plan of action regarding demands put forward by the PTI and PAT leadership.

The session was chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and foreign media representatives were also summoned by the government. Achakzai condemned the use of derogatory language by certain political leaders. Ijazul Haq while addressing the session said that the political parties protesting should consider holding dialogue within the constitutional parameters. He said that the government has full support of the opposition and the NA comprising of 342 members could not be dismissed upon the orders of 38 people.

He added that first time in the history of Pakistan the political parties were unified against an issue. The session was adjourned until 11am tomorrow. Tens of thousands of the followers of PTI and PAT had laid siege to the parliament house overnight, asking the premier to tender his resignation. Earlier, the premier called on President Mamnoon Hussain at the Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad and took him into confidence on the prevailing political crisis. The premier has recently visited twice the National Assembly in months due to heightening in political tension as marchers reached the federal capital to protest against his government. -dawn
