Watch Video: Pakistan, Turkey Hold 4th HLSCC Meeting

Pakistan and Turkey on Tuesday held the fourth meeting of Pakistan-Turkey High Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC) and discussed ways of cooperation in six key areas.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Turkish prime minister Ahmet Davutoglu co-chaired the session here, which was attended by the respective ministers from both sides.

Pakistan and Turkey

The HLSCC meeting deliberated on six key areas including finance and banking; trade; energy; transport and communications; education; and culture and tourism.  Prime Minister Sharif in his opening remarks said Pakistan and Turkey were indispensable partners as they were working together for peace. He said the unique nature of partnership, which had the commonality of faith and culture, was reinforced by shared democratic values.

He thanked the Turkish leadership and people for their support at difficult times. Prime Minister Davutoglu said despite being geographically distant, Pakistan and Turkey enjoyed exemplary relationship.  He said Turkey wanted to make the brotherly relationship with Pakistan as functionally result-oriented. He said every Turkish prime minister considers it his duty to visit Pakistan on priority and the Turks consider Pakistan as their second home. Prior to HLSCC, the relevant ministers also had bilateral interactions and presented outcome of their deliberations at the HLSCC meeting.

The High Level Cooperation Council (HLCC) was established at the Prime Ministerial level in October 2009.  It has had three sessions so far: in Ankara in December 2010; Islamabad in May 2012; and Ankara in September 2013. At the 3rd session in 2013, the Council was renamed as “High Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC)” to reflect the strategic nature of the relationship. – APP
