ISLAMABAD: The President of Pakistan Open Gold Medal Golf Championship, with prize money of Rs0.8 million, will commence at Islamabad Golf Club (IGC) here from on Friday (tomorrow). The championship, to be continued till April 17, will have competitions in the professionals, amateurs and women’s categories.The captain of IGC, Zahid Arbab Khan, along with secretary IN Khokhar, told newsmen on Wednesday that more than 250 golfers were expected in the tournament, a prestigious event of Pakistan golf calendar. “We are expecting 90 golfers in professional, 20 in senior professional, 85 in amateurs, 50 in senior amateurs, and 12 in women’s competition for the event,” said Zahid. Muhammad Munir of IGC is the defending champion the in professional category, young Mubraiz Ahmed of Karachi Golf Club in the amateur section and Maryama Khan of Lahore in the women’s event. The professional and amateur competitions will start from Friday for three days over 54 holes (18 holes each day) while the other categories will be played on Saturday and Sunday over 36 holes (18 holes each day). – Dailytimes
