PESHAWAR: In order to establish mobile courts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led provincial government will hold a meeting with the administration of Peshawar High Court (PHC) in near future to discuss the matter properly.

The PTI has always voiced for speedy justice. And that’s why it supported strengthening the local government system in the country. “We want to provide justice through local governments system, and setting up mobile courts is not in the PTI’s agenda” said Israr Ullah Gandapur, Provincial Law and Parliamentary Affairs, while talking to The Nation on Sunday. He, however, said that their government would soon meet Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Dost Mohammad Khan to discuss the matter of mobile courts. Finance Minister Sirajul Haq had said in his budget speech that the provincial government would establish mobile courts in the province so that to ensure justice to people at all level. However, the budget documents showed no allocation for the purpose.

The idea to have mobile courts in the province is of the CJ PHC Dost Mohammad Khan, as soon after his appointment in November 2011, he had said that there were several things on his priority list and setting up of mobile courts is one of them.In this connection, the high court had prepared two drafts of Criminal Mobile Courts Act, 2012, and Civil Mobile Courts Act, 2012 and sent them to the provincial law department for legislation in the assembly. But the ANP-led government failed to pass the proposed laws, as that it was apparently least interested in introducing these laws for early setting up of the mobile courts.

Such courts will hold sittings at town/ union councils/ police stations or other places specified by the high court on rotation basis as may be directed by the district judge.Legal experts believe that these courts would be helpful especially in such areas of the KPK where regular courts are situated in district and tehsil headquarters faraway from villages. In such areas even for petty nature cases people have to visit the district and tehsil headquarters for attending court proceedings.A day earlier, Chief Justice of PHC Justice Dost Mohammad Khan once again called for early legislation to establish mobile courts in the province and asked the relevant authorities for speedy action on two proposed laws in this respect. – Nation
